I (Michael) Just signed up for around the bay in a day. This is going to be an awesome 210km ride around Port Phillip bay. I haven't started to do much training yet but I'll post updates on how prepared I am. At least my bike is in working order after a particularly nasty mechanical incident a while back. You can see a picture of me on it in the background of the page. Hannah is on her cool Giant OCR3. Also Tour de France is soon!. This is a massive event for me and also Han and will definitely be up watching most of the stages. Allez L'Australie, Allez Robbie!!
The Best Restaurants
29/06/2008 3:13pm
This website has never failed me, it offers the best Melbourne restaurants in loads of categories and locations. http://www.melbournerestaurants.com.au/ Some of the restaurants are a bit pricey but the food will leave you very satisfied- plus a lot of these allow you to use the Herald Sun's 'split the bill' tokens, which means you can go to an awesome restaurant for half the price. (It's extravagant dates made cheap!)
Top Ten's

Hannah thinks that it is a good idea to start some top 10 lists and I completely agree although most won't have ten things yet...
They will grow with time.
Favourite Muscats
1. De Bortoli Show Liqueur Muscat
2. Lauriston Show Muscat
That's it at the moment but it is good.

 | Favourite Melbourne Eats
First off 'a tip to the wise' use Herald Sun split bill tokens to get a great deal at some of these restaurants or try out a new place on the cheap.

2. Berth Docklands
3. The Windsor Hotel - High Tea
4. Saganaki Greek Resturant Docklands
5. Othello's on South Bank
6. Max Brenner (may also get a place on our chocolate list!)
7. Cafe Era (mainly the dips, order wedges to add more bonus dips!)
8. Cafe Italia
9. Mee Too Cafe & Bar
Honourable Mention goes to Georgie Pie especially Chicken and Wine pie. Mmmmm pie, do you like pie?
Expect updates as we discover them.

A day in the life of...
28/6/2008 4:38
A day in the life of someone is mainly based around Connex. It is not however a day in the life of Connex because they don't have a life they need to get one. These entries will continue to pay out Connex and that is about it. Until Hannah tells me to write something different. This one is about Hannah because she came up with the concept and was the first of us to start loathing Connex although for a time briefly she did desire to be a Connex lady although that stage quickly passed (that is another story).
...Hannah
Between the hours of 6 and 9am (depending on how mean the university timetable is- some of my classes start at 8am!) the alarm gently wakes me up, I roll over and hit snooze. The alarm gently wakes me up again; I roll over and hit the snooze button. This continues for some time until I realise I can put off getting up no longer as I'm going to be late. After getting ready and eating breakfast I make the dash for uni. This maybe by walking, riding or taking the tram depending on how lazy or alternatively how cheap I am being. 20 min to an hour later I am there. Previous to this year I depended upon the Connex train system. The bitter disappointment of delayed or cancelled trains (no amount of 'Connex apologises for any inconvenience' can sooth the angst, frustration or disappointment faced) and the fun of overcrowded peak time transport, being crushed under business men and women some of whom had not bothered to brush their teeth that morning. But now I have come upon a new threat to being at a destination on time, this is Yarra Trams. I find I can ride my bike (Old Pete) to uni faster than if I take a tram but they are nowhere near as bad as Connex. Did you know the Upfield line only has trains ever 20 minutes including during peak times and only every 40 minutes on Sundays. Enough about the horrors of public transport, I do like helping the environment I really do.
At Melbourne Uni I can be generally found in the chemistry building (as I am majoring in chem.) or in the Department of Education, but I can occasionally be spotted in the Med, psychology, physics, biology or mathematics faculties. Most recently I have studied Psychology, and have just completed an exam for this subject. I was fine with the Neuroscience side of it as well as the learning cognition and memory side but the sensation and perception exam questions were quite ridiculous. Some of the questions included...
'What is red?'
a. a specific wavelength on the long end of the electromagnetic spectrum
b. the peak output of the L-cone
c. the colour of a traffic light when there are other people around.
d. too hard to answer on a multi-choice exam.
And another goodie was 'what is the stencil at the end of the table at Castros kiosk?' Castros is a cafe on campus and this question had nothing to do with the subject content what so ever not ever being mentioned in class.
Anyway other than that uni is usually pretty good, the old buildings are awesome, they are really pretty as well as the gardens. The modern buildings like Law are also really nice, as they offer great views. Then you come to the science faculty... This consists of mainly buildings built in 60, 70, and 80's so they are ugly and easily dated. But good news - the Chemistry building is getting a facelift (mainly the inside though) to make it more modern under the Melbourne Model, however the bad news is this means labs and libraries are disrupted due to construction. Just like the ERC (education resource centre) this is being transformed from a library to a study area, sucks for current education students who just want to use the library like normal to get books.
If I have a few hours between classes I head up to Sydney Road Brunswick to go to work. Last semester the science classes were studying chemistry so great chance to test out my teaching skills, but after a while it just becomes an over load of chemistry (uni + work). Next semester we are moving on to electronics, this shall be great as it is something different from chemistry. Although I am predicting a lot of accidental engravings of students names onto desks with soldering irons. After a couple of hours at school I head back to uni for my afternoon classes. During winter these classes are horrible as they finish after 6 and it is already dark when you leave. Once home I get to make a late tea and then head to bed. Much to Michael's amusement I am not a night owl and I am usually in bed before 10pm (He thinks this is hilarious).
