Michael and Hannah's day on the town

26/08/2008 12:18pm
Last Saturday Michael and (probably mainly me) thought it would fun to go window-shopping in the shops we cannot afford. So dressed in our finest attire we headed towards Collins Street. We walked in to Tiffanys and Co. first, this was crazy busy and was hard to view any of the items due to being so crowded so we moved on to Chanel, Gucci, Ralph Lauren, Hermes (oh pretty scarfs), Louis Vuitton and others. After an exciting day out - seeing all the lovely things that are beyond my reach we continued to wander the arcades until we happened upon a chocolate shop 'Chocolait Hub' which we had not been to or even knew existed before. I recommend the fresh iced strawberry- mmmm so good but probably even better in the warmer months. I'm inserting this into our favourite chocolate list about at number 3 or 4 hard to decide. While I am on the topic of food Michael and I tried out 'Grilled' the other day- the healthy burger place. It was so yummy how a burger should taste, and the tomato chutney with the chips was great.

New Hosting

21/07/2008 4:28pm
Well at the request of Hannah this site is now on a stable hosting arrangement. So the site should be on 24/7 now if this works out.

I think I will also take this opportunity to explain the old hosting system. See this website was a great way for me to test out hosting my own website. Given that there was very low to no traffic here that was possible to achieve on my laptop and home internet connection. It was also achieved using all completely free and open source software (well not the diehard versions). I have been using Ubuntu for a while now and enjoying it. I was able to set up apache and php quite easily. The whole thing worked beautifully.

Problems included that the site didn't work if my laptop was on, which is the main reason for switching. The connection speed was obviously low. Also when I move between houses I wouldn't need to keep updating the modem to get it to inform dyndns.org. All of these problems should be fixed and I am yet to find any catches with the new hosting. So hopefully this new system works out.

I won't bore anyone reading with more technical details about all of this but if anyone is interested I would love to discuss so write in on the discussion page (If anyone reads, heck even you can write in Han)

More Cycling

16/07/2008 8:33pm
Not that I want all my posts to be about cycling but come on the Tour de France is on and an Australian is in Yellow, GO CADEL!! Sure he is yet to actually try to attack anyone but who says you need to be able to ride faster. Anyway a one second lead should be plenty... Also I have finally started doing my training for what will be my 210km challenge ride for the day (sounds petty compared to what the TDF riders do ever day). Went for two short rides, only about 20km but seems like I can still keep up a decent pace will just have to work on the distance. That is proving to be a problem though as my sleep cycle is so disrupted it is as if I'm drifting into the French time zone. Yes blatantly ripped from an xkcd joke. Speaking of xkcd I recently rediscovered them and just read the whole lot. It took about 2 days but it was hilarious and thought provoking and well worth it. I highly recommend the comics especially for anyone one with a penchant for nerdiness, just like me.

Hannah-Lee's Friday Evening Trip Home

11/07/2008 11:56pm

My Friday night train was quite different to what I expected. On Friday 11th July I came home from my holiday in Warrnambool, after the long Vline trip back I arrived at Southern Cross station at 9pm only to find myself in a massive swarm of people. You see I had chosen to travel back home on the same day as the World Youth Day rally at the Telstra Dome (which is next to southern cross) before heading up to Sydney. There were people from everywhere. I struggled to get onto platform 10 to get my train Connex workers was franticly trying to move people but with little luck. I found myself surrounded by a group from Chile and they sang patriotic chants that could burst the eardrum (ok I exaggerate a bit it wasn't that loud). I finally got my train and was in a carriage full of Indians baring their flags, and singing with joy. Probably the safest and most entertain train trip home ever. The began with praise songs (Shine Jesus Shine, Lord I lift your name on high, and more)and got people in the carriage to sing along and then after a while at the request of someone (I have no idea why) they began to sing Christmas carols. Very Funny.

Jayco Herald Sun Tour

02/07/2008 1:14pm
Talking about Robbie, something really fun to watch is the Jayco Herald Sun Tour. We watched the final stage around Carlton a year or two ago and it was quite exciting. Robbie McEwan won this tour with was great to see. Afterwards a lot of the teams sell off their used bikes, wheels, team gear for relatively good prices since most of the bikes are near new. I hope we get to see the Tour de France someday as the atmosphere would be even greater than this little tour we went to watch.
