Older > From Paris to Provence11/10/2010 10:14am![]() ![]() Dining at Government House14/09/2010 5:02amI received a gold trimmed invitation to attend a function at Government house. The envelope came complete with a gold embossed crest. So on the 31st of August I attended with my fellow work comrades dressed in our lounge suits and day dresses. Government House is a beautiful mansion situated in the middle of the botanical gardens in Melbourne. At night it was lit up wonderfully, even the gates looked fantastic. We were served drinks and canapes in the main hall and preceded into the ballroom after speeches were made. I was introduced to the Governor Professor David de Krester and his wife Mrs de Krester. They seemed nice but I tend to think that they must be extremely bored with the repetitive questions about the house. Overall it was a nice evening although it did end rather early.

I thought I would share something a little funny with you that I recently found again. During one of my teaching placements, I gave a test after a unit on electricity to my year 8's. To the question 'what is the main source of electricity in Victoria?' one student responded 'the main source of electricity in Victoria is skeletons.' Michael was correcting this with me and we could not stop laughing, probably due to being so late and tired. By skeletons I believe she is referring to 'fossil' fuels. Victoria relies on brown coal, a fossil fuel.
Water bottle burns09/03/2010 12:24am I found this article in the Herald Sun last year (Wednesday 22th July 2009), and I was relieved to find out that I was not the only idiot to burn myself with a hot water bottle, although I did do it twice before I switched to a heat bag. After 7 years it looks like my leg scar will be here for the long haul. HUGGING a hot water bottle is landing scores of people in hospital with burns as they try to beat the chill and reduce heating bills. Nearly 190 Victorians including children and the elderly have been treated at emergency departments over the past five years, Injury Surveillance Unit research shows. Alfred Hospital adult burns unit care co-ordinator Yvonne Singer said a handful of patients were so badly burnt by burst bottles they needed skin grafts. Consumer Affairs Victoria recently seized almost 2000 unsafe hot water bottles in a snap five-week inspection.
Tour Down Under19/01/2010 10:58pm
Much to our disappointment our trip to Adelaide was a week short of the Tour Down Under the biggest cycling event in the southern hemisphere and the only pro tour down here. It would have been awesome to watch. Here is a picture taken from the team base in Adelaide which we wandered passed hoping to see someone cool. We will get to a pro tour one day...
